NICE TRICK!

August 12th, 2010

Well, we didn’t really want to leak this one, but since we have all 5 triple corks* in the movie, we decided to let this one loose.  Plus there is just something a little weird about the shot.  I don’t know what it is.

*Just a reminder, folks.  Don’t take snowboarding, or life too seriously.  Just relax and have fun.  And don’t forget that your friends might play pranks on you sometimes.

Making Music

July 28th, 2010

Did we mention that the Resourceful Gnomes are making all of our own music for Respect Your Elders!?  Yep, Brandon Cocard, besides being one of the stars of the shred show, is the Music Director as well.  We’ve brought together friends, family, and like-minded musicians to record an original soundtrack for the movie!  This has been quite an awesome new adventure, and with the help of John Askew at Scenic Burrows studio, we’ve lain down some amazing material for the Fantavious Fritz to edit to!  A lot of the music consists of original songs written by Brandon, Ben Lynch, Skylar Thorton, while on the long road to Alaska.  Other tracks are by Mega Meat, a band made up of Tim Eddy (drums), Brandon Cocard (bass, guitar), Taylor Carlton (electric guitar), and occasionally led by the Hendrix-fingered Chris Emmington (electric guitar).  Another amazing contributor is Aaron Oropeza, who is a mystifying one-man folk show.  Coming in to drop the “Respect Your Elders” theme song are the Lonesome Billies, a country duo made up of Jeff Gaither and Clayton ‘Coach’ McCune.  Stay tuned for recording studio content.  Just a sneak peek for now.

Here is a photo sequence of a ‘campfire’ jam led by Aaron Oropeza, and including The Lonesome Billies, Brandon Cocard, Tim Eddy, Hannah Fuller, Diana Oropeza, and Jesse Grandkoski.

Tahoe Part III … Area-241

July 2nd, 2010

Mike Basich invited us to come shred with him around, and even on his home located in the Donner Summit area. Mike is one of the most amazing people that I have ever had the chance to meet. The guy can do it all. A true Renaissance Man in the world of shred. Check out his latest film entitled Open Space for a better idea of what I am talking about. Here are a few photos from our time at AREA-241. Thanks again Mike!

Welcome to Area-241.

Mikes house is work of art. Look closely at the detail.

We show up and Mike had already pushed a lip into a powder landing. Hospitality at its finest!

Methods and backflips, guns, powder, major biffs, cliffs, river boarding, and air time. Somebody tell me this doesn’t look like a good time.  Shot on location in Valdez, Baker, Tahoe, Silverton, and everywhere in between.

Tahoe Part II

June 20th, 2010

So after Ben finished up at the 25th Annual Legendary Baker Banked Slalom, he packed up the Blue Ox and headed South to California where he met up with Travis Parker, Brandon Cocard, Eric Messier, and Myself (Kyle Schwartz) for some more great times in the Sierra Nevadas.

Ben holding some TASTY elk meat that he hunted during the fall.

Ben sending one in the backyard.

Ben’s trusty steed, The Blue Ox.

Ben and I managed to fit both of our sleds onto my single sled trailer.

Two sleds on a single sled trailer is a bad idea. Brokeback trailer.

Ben sent one off this cornice and released a little slab. Luckily he stuck his landing.

Stay tuned for Tahoe Part III-Area 241!!!

Silverton to Tahoe

June 17th, 2010

So after riding the most insane blower pow ever at Silverton Mountain Resort, the Resourceful Gnome crew parted ways for a bit. Ben Lynch, Josh Dirksen, and Jesse Grandkoski headed to Mt. Baker for the infamous Baker Banked Slalom while Brandon Cocard and I (Kyle Schwartz) headed back to Lake Tahoe where we were greeted with more fresh pow and familiar terrain.

Colorado to Tahoe. Nonstop. A mellow 16 hour drive.

This is what happens to your car in Tahoe when you leave for a month.

Two days after we arrived in Tahoe, the snow gods blessed us once again.

Tahoe Backcountry. Sprinkle the nuggies!
